Colin Kaepernick: ‘Denied Work for 889 Days’; Says He’s ‘Still Ready’ for NFL Return

Colin Kaepernick

*Colin Kaepernick is not ready to give up on his pro sports career even though he was last active in the NFL during the 2016 season with the San Francisco 49ers.

In a Twitter post on Wednesday, the 31-year-old wrote: “5am. 5 days a week. For 3 years. Still Ready.” He then noted in a corresponding video that he’s been “denied” work for 889 days (see clip below).

Kap was blacklisted after he ignited a protest movement against police brutality by kneeling during the playing of the national anthem at games. The league responded by shutting him out; and he has not played since the 2016 season. Kaepernick fired back by filing a grievance in October 2017.

As we previously reported, he reached an undisclosed settlement with the NFL after filing a lawsuit alleging collusion by team owners to keep him out of the league because of his activism.

The NFL settled a similar claim lodged by player Eric Reid, a former 49ers safety, who supports the kneeling protest and went unsigned before playing last season for the Carolina Panthers.

As noted by The Guardian, Kaepernick shared a headline from the Washington Post that Reid will continue to kneel this season to raise awareness of racial inequality, police brutality and social injustice, and wrote: “Unwavering. Unrelenting. Unflinching. Unapologetic. Love you Brother! @E—Reid35.”
