Brazilian Inmate Who Tried to Escape Prison Disguised as Daughter Found Dead in Cell [VIDEO]

*The Brazilian gang leader who tried to escape prison disguised as his teenage daughter was found dead in his jail cell three days later — and folks across social media are giving this curious case the side-eye.

Footage of the elaborate jailbreak has gone viral, showing 47-year-old Clauvino da Silva wearing a plastic mask, a black wig, a grey hoodie — and a bra!

His daughter, Ana Gabriele Leandro da Silva, reportedly remained inside the prison while her father unsuccessfully tried to make his escape.

Silva was serving a 73-year prison sentence for his role as one of the leaders of the notorious Red Command, Brazil’s oldest criminal group. His daughter is expected to be charged with abetting a prison escape.

Guards say they became suspicious of Silva because they were unconvinced by his disguise (see video above). They ordered him to strip down in front of the cameras, and the footage was released over the weekend.

“When he started talking, and pretending to speak like a woman, the guard realized that it was an attempted jailbreak, and identified him,” said Moyses Henriques, deputy head of prison operations in Rio state, to Reuters.

Following the failed getaway, Silva was transferred to a high-security unit. But in an interesting plot twist, he allegedly killed himself three days after the incident, said Rio de Janeiro state authorities on Tuesday.

“The inmate appears to have hanged himself with a bedsheet,” Rio’s prison authority said in a statement.

But many across social media suspect he was murdered, and that he attempted to escape prison in order to avoid being killed.

His failed escape over the weekend marked Silva’s second attempt to flee the prison. He successfully escaped with 30 other prisons through the prison’s sewer system in 2013, Extra reported via heavy.com. He was arrested a month later while attempting an armed invasion in Rio.

Prison officials told the Rio Times they have launched an investigation into Silva’s death, which they say was an apparent suicide.
