*A seemingly white supremacist couple out of Iowa will avoid prison after adopting two African siblings and starving them while their own biological children were well cared for.
Kelly Fry and Kenny Fry admitted to keeping the two siblings from Ghana in plastic-lined rooms and forcing them to use buckets as toilets. They also only fed them oatmeal for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
According to KCRG, a neighbor once saw the 10-year-old girl and 11-year-old boy locked outside the residence in January 2018 when the temperature was just 15 degrees.
“They were knocking on the door. It sounded like they were crying, ‘Let me in,’” the neighbor shared with the news station. “I can’t say exactly what they were saying, but I could hear crying out. I just thought, ‘Something is not right.’ Just knowing it was so cold outside and those poor kids were locked out.”

Authorities found the children to be extremely malnourished so they were taken into the care of social workers. The siblings reportedly told the social workers that if they left their rooms, an alarm would sound and they’d have to do extreme exercises as punishment.
The Fry’s were arrested last summer and charged with neglect or abandonment and child endangerment causing bodily injury. In May, they took a plea deal, admitting to two counts of child endangerment.
On Thursday, they received a deferred judgement of two years of probation, over $12,000 in fines and 100 hours of community service.
Judge Dustria Relph decided the Frys deserve better than jail, noting that the couple need to focus on rehabilitation and growth.
Police say a physical exam determined the kids were malnourished and their growth had likely been stunted by neglect, per bet.com. The outlet also notes that since being removed from the custody of the Frys, the state says the siblings are “thriving and sometimes ask to be reunited with the defendants.”
They are reportedly now in the care of relatives.
The charges against the Frys will be wiped from their records once they successfully complete their probation.
