El Paso Massacre Update: At Least 19 Dead, White Male Shooter Arrested (LIVE VIDEO COVERAGE)

*As of this posting, at least 19 people are dead and 40 injured after a shooting Saturday near a shopping mall in El Paso, Texas, NBC News is reporting, per law enforcement officials. One suspect, a 21-year-old man from the Dallas area, is in custody.

Multiple law-enforcement sources say police have identified the suspected as Patrick Crusius.

A second person was also taken into custody by authorities, but it is not immediately known what role, if any, the person played in the shooting, sources familiar with the investigation told NBC News.

What is known so far:

  • The shooting took place in a Walmart and around the nearby Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso.
    Police received their first calls on the incident slightly past 10 a.m. local time.
  • At least 19 people were killed and 40 injured.
  • One male suspect is in custody, along with a second person whose suspected role in the shooting was not immediately known.

El Paso police said the initial calls about the incident came at about 10 a.m. local time. By about 1 p.m. police said there was no imminent threat at that point. Earlier, in several tweets, police urged people to stay away from the area near the Cielo Vista Mall due to an “active shooter.”
