10-Year-Old Boy Charged with Assaulting White Kid After Playing #DodgeBallWhileBlack [VIDEO]

*A 10-year-old Black boy has been charged with aggravated assault after a white student got hit during a game of dodgeball at his elementary school.

Cameishi Lindley, mother of Bryce Lindley, told 7 Action News that she was shocked when she received a phone call recently from the local juvenile court, explaining that her son was going to be charged with aggravated assault, months after the playground incident.

“I couldn’t believe it,” Lindley said of the call she received from the Wayne County Juvenile Court in Canton, Mich., on July 24.

News of the Black kid being punished for allegedly injuring the white boy has some critics calling the incident racist, including filmmaker Tariq Nasheed, and comedian DL Hughley called the charge “ridiculous.”

#DodgeBallWhileBlack is now trending on Twitter.

“Some 10 year olds were playing dodgeball on the playground at school. A white kid got hit with the ball. Then they charged the 10 year old Black child with assault,” tweeted Nasheed. “This is why we should not prioritize any of these border issues, while our kids are racially targeted.”

Lindley said in an interview with 7 Action News, “These kids are basically playing a game we all have played. I couldn’t believe it. This is a kid that was playing on the playground with his friends.”

She explained that the incident happened April 29 at Ruth Eriksson Elementary, and her son was suspended from school for a day over the matter.

The parents of the other child filed charges against Bryce, because they claim their son has a medical condition that makes head injuries very dangerous for him, per Complex

So why does the school allow him to participate in potentially dangerous and life threatening activities such as dodgeball?

“He sustained facial issue damage to his face. He had a black eye and a bruised nose,” the parents of the white student said, noting that their son sustained a concussion. “My son was hit twice in the face with a ball previously due to this.”

Bryce’s Juvenile Court date is set for Aug. 1. His mother has set up a fundraiser to help with legal fees.
