Larry Buford: The Wedding Dress

*Are you a creative person? If so, then you know the creation process of making something from nothing. As a writer, I brood over a blank page to find the right words to bring a meaningful thought or idea to fruition. It’s not just a bunch of words thrown together.

So, concerning creation versus evolution, which would you believe: That best-selling author Stephen King accidentally knocked over some ink onto some paper and the splash formed into a best-selling novel; or rather that he purposefully toiled and skillfully wrote it?

The Bible reads in Genesis 1:2 “And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said let there be light, and there was light.” The amplified version says, “The Spirit of God was moving [hovering, brooding] over the face of the waters.” He already had in mind what He intended to create, so it did not take long (six days) – God’s word says it, and I believe it!

The church is referred to in the Bible as “the bride of Christ,” and in order to become a part of His church, we must be born again; that is, to believe and turn our hearts and minds toward Him. He explains in John 3:5-7 how we must be “born of water and spirit.” Does that sound familiar? Creation began with water and the Spirit of God. When we say “I do” to Christ, we become new creatures being fitted and adorned as a bride-to-be awaiting the groom.

My wife is a professional crocheter; she writes: “To most people, yarn is just a ball of string, but through the eyes of the crocheter, it can be made into a myriad of things from a simple dish towel to something more exquisite like a wedding dress. God created us all for different purposes as the body of Christ. Romans 9:21(NIV) reads: ‘Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?’”

Note: The difference between knitting and crocheting: Knitting can be done by hand or by machine. Crocheting can only be done by hand. There is not a machine that can replicate genuine crochet. We are God’s exclusive, intricate handiwork.

The point is, everything and everyone was created from intelligence; not happenstance. God’s creation speaks for itself whether we choose to admit it or not. I say “admit” because even a fool has to believe there is a greater force beyond the futility of trying to prove the evolution theory.

Now, as a member of the body of Christ, what is your role in adorning the bride-to-be (the church) in preparation for the groom – the return of Jesus Christ who died on the cross to reconcile mankind to God?
