*Da Brat is defending Jermaine Dupri’s recent controversial remarks about women rappers.
In case you missed it, as we previously reported, during an appearance on PEOPLE TV, Dupri was asked to name his favorite female rapper and he drew a blank. The hosts then names Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, and Cardi B — but JD was not impressed.
“I can’t really say. The only reason why I can’t say is because I feel they’re all rapping about the same things,” he explained. “I don’t think they’re showing us who’s the best rapper. I think they’re trying to show—for me, it’s like strippers rapping. And as far as rap goes, I’m not getting who’s the best rapper. I’m getting like, ‘OK, you got a story about you dancing in the club, you got a story about you dancing in the club, you got a story about you dancing in the club.’ It’s like, ‘OK, who’s going to be the rapper?’ At some point, somebody’s going to have to break out of that mold and just show us—talk about other things, just rap about other things besides that.”

Former stripper Cardi B fired back at Dupri, saying: “”First of all, I rap about my p*ssy because she’s my best friend, you know what I’m sayin’? And second of all, it seems like that’s what people wanna hear.”
Now, Dupri’s loyal artist and longtime friend Da Brat is weighing in on the debate, telling TMZ, “Everything Jermaine Dupri does is done strategically,” she said. “He knows what he’s doing; he’s a genius. You should be thankful that the conversation is even started now…‘cause now the focus is absolutely on [female rappers].”
When asked about JD’s “strippers rapping” comment, she replied, “That’s not what he said,” adding that Dupri’s interview with People TV had been edited, and taken out of context. “I love Jermaine Dupri,” she concluded. “He’s very smart at what he does and there’s always a method to his madness.
