Rapper ASAP Rocky‘s dire situation has caught the attention of the Congressional Black Caucus which wants to let him and the world know they have his back.
Caucus members say they are committed to doing all they can to secure his release from a Swedish jail. Here’s what Congressman Hakeem Jeffries on NYC told TMZ about their involvement, citing human rights violations.
“The situation with ASAP Rocky is unfortunate, it’s outrageous, it needs to be addressed,” Jeffries explained. “You can expect that members of Congress, particularly those of us who are part of the Congressional Black Caucus, are going to continue to weigh in forcefully until ASAP Rocky is free.”
Congressman André Carson is also actively working to free ASAP by continuing to put pressure on the State Department to reach out to the Swedish government to sort out the situation as quickly as possible.
On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of State issued a statement addressing the Swedish government over Rocky’s treatment.
“There are certainly some facts about the arrest and detention that raise concerns,” a spokesperson for the department said. “We expect all governments, including Sweden, to treat American citizens fairly and with respect. We hope to see ASAP Rocky and his colleagues back on tour and reunited with friends and family soon.”

Meanwhile, Quavo, in a brief interview with TMZ, revealed he too was dealt with harshly by Swedish authorities.
“Sweden had us down on the curb as soon as we went to Sweden,” he said. “They had me and my cameraman on the curb, and they were trying to lock us up too.”
As we reported earlier, ASAP Rocky was arrested following a Stockholm incident that involved two men he said were following and harassing him. He and three other people were arrested on suspicion of assault after the rapper performed at a festival in the city. Rocky released footage showing the two men stalking him and his crew, and he also alleged that the unnamed men had sexually harassed numerous women. The two men are under investigation for suspected assault and molestation.
