*CALIFORNIA — (@BuffyWicks), CA State Assemblywoman has levied unfounded attacks against several Twitter users associated with (ADOS) or American Descendants of Slavery, a grassroots political movement of native Black Americans seeking Reparations from the US government to redress 400 years of chattel slavery, Jim Crow, Black Codes, Convict Leasing, Redlining, mass incarceration and systemic oppression.

Wicks accused several users of being “bots” and of actively participating in voter suppression tactics. She offered no evidence to support these claims and later deleted the comments in question. You can read all of the tweets here: https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1144922320164626432.html

In the referenced thread, Wicks attacks me personally. I am a Black American (ADOS) and a grassroots political advocate for Reparations. Wicks’ remarks are not only reckless and impugn my reputation, but are also dangerous in a climate where Russian digital intervention in our election cycle is a real threat and Black activists are being targeted as “identity extremists” by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Her unfounded accusations of bots and voter suppression targeting Black Americans (ADOS) is tantamount to modern-day McCarthyism and endangers lives.

It is also noteworthy that Wicks, in her first bid for office, ran as a “business-backed Democratic operative pushing to disrupt a seat long-held by the progressive left.”

This calls into question her motives for defaming grassroots Black American (ADOS) activists.

Further calling her integrity into question, is the following tweet from Wicks’ husband seemingly calling for donations to the Kamala Harris Presidential campaign: https://twitter.com/PeterMAmbler/status/1145033543954776064

I have formally requested a personal apology and a collective apology to all Black Americans (ADOS) who Wicks targeted and defamed with these baseless accusations. She has not yet responded to my request.
