*Delta Air Lines is allowing passengers flying to the Dominican Republic’s Punta Cana airport to change or cancel their flights without penalty amid a recent spate of mysterious deaths and illnesses in the country.

Delta Airlines is doing the right thing concerning the Dominican Republic in light of all the recent illnesses and deaths in the island nation.

The airline issued a travel advisory that says it will allow passengers flying to the Dominican Republic’s Punta Cana airport to change or cancel their flights without penalty. However, travelers who change their flight to Punta Cana must rebook their travel for before Nov. 20. On the other hand, for those who cancel their flight entirely, they will have one year from their initial booking date to use the credit, according to the advisory.

The airline’s announcement comes as a study revealed that Dominican Republic bookings are down around 74 percent for the months of July and August compared to the same period last year.

“To support our customers, we are currently waiving change fees when rebooking flights to or from the Dominican Republic. For customers who wish to cancel their flights, we are waiving the cancellation fee and issuing a credit for future JetBlue travel,” a JetBlue spokesperson told ABC News.

As EURweb and other outlets have previously reported, at least 12 Americans have died under suspicious circumstances while staying at hotels and resorts on the island over the past 2 years. The FBI is investigating whether the deaths are due to bootleg liquor in the hotel room minibars.

Dominican officials insist the U.S. tourists died from natural causes.
