*New details have emerged in the shooting of three-time World Series champ David ‘Big Papi’ Ortiz.
The Daily Mail previously reported Ortiz was shot over an affair with the wife of a jealous drug lord, and model Maria Yeribell Martinez Garcia is believed to be at the center of the love triangle.
She was reportedly filmed fighting another woman at Dr. Abel Gonzalez Medical Center, the Dominican hospital where Ortiz was taken for surgery. Garcia has denied any romantic involvement with Ortiz but he reportedly bought her a $85K Lexus RX a day before he was shot.
The nine suspects allegedly involved in the shooting of the Red Sox legend have been indicted. They are reportedly being sent to four different prisons “in order to protect the integrity of the investigation” and could be held for up to a year, the Boston Globe reports. They are charged with attempted murder, criminal association and illegal possession of weapons.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the suspects continues both in the U.S. and the Dominican Republic, with the gunman, Rolfy Ferreyra Cruz, reportedly wanted for a pair of robberies in New Jersey.
Dominican police say Cruz confessed to shooting Ortiz as part of a hit job, but Cruz claims the sports icon was not his intended target.
“I was confused,” Cruz tells reporters in new cellphone video from his holding cell, adding “they only told me the color of his clothes,” suggesting he didn’t know it was Ortiz he shot.
Meanwhile, a Dominican source claims the attack on Ortiz could have been orchestrated from prison for a few thousand dollars.
“These guys haven’t seen $5,000 in their lives. There might be three levels of what’s going on here: No.1, funding and planning; No. 2, execution (of the plan); and No. 3, guys being blamed,” says the anonymous source who has knowledge of the case. “They probably have one cell phone between them. One is 24 years old. He’s been in prison for five years.”

The source also described an incident involving Ortiz in the Dominican Republic, when his white Lexus was chased and cut off by a black Mercedes SUV before crashing in front of a firehouse.
U.S. law enforcement agencies believe a drug kingpin nicknamed “The Abuser” is a person of interest in the shooting, as one theory to a possible motive is that police in the D.R. believe Ortiz was shot by two cops “hired by a Dominican Republic drug lord who thought the baseball player was having an affair with his wife,” according to the Daily Mail.
An Ortiz representative has denied that the shooting was connected to a woman, but acknowledged it was the act of “hired killers.”
Ortiz continues to recover from his injuries in the intensive care unit at Mass General Hospital in Boston.
