Chappelle’s Broadway debut opens three months before the comedian is set to receive this year’s Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 27. Previous honorees include Julia Louis-Dreyfus, David Letterman, Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy, and Whoopi Goldberg.

Earlier this year, Chappelle helped Will Smith prep for his inaugural stand-up performance as part of the actor’s bucket list challenge.

“The first thing I’ll tell you is confidence is key,” Chappelle told Smith, he says in the episode of the Facebook Watch series. “The reason you should be confident is primarily because you’re Will Smith.”
