*There’s been movement in the David Ortiz shooting case. Police officials in the Dominican Republic say the shooter, Rolfi Ferreira Cruz (pictured above in mug shot), has been arrested.

In adddition to Cruz, 5 other suspectes, who authorities say were all paid a total of 400,000 pesos ($8,000)  have also been detained. However, as of this posting, at least 1 other suspect is still on the run.

Ortiz – as we previously reported – was shot in the back on Sunday night as he was sitting in an outside patio area of the Dial Bar and Lounge in the D.R, according to TMZ.

Police say two men drove up to the scene on a motorcycle and one of them got off to fire a single bullet into the Red Sox legend’s lower back.

Naturally, the suspects tried to get away from the scene on the bike, but like they say, ish happens. Specifically, the bike fell the pavement and they tried to make a run for it on foot.

The alleged shooter, Rolfi Ferreira Cruz, was able to escape, but the other suspect, Eddy Vladimir Feliz Garcia, was beaten to a pulp on the scene by bystanders before he was handed over to cops.

Now, D.R. officials are saying they’ve caught the suspected shooter and arrested him … and have also detained 3 additional people they say contributed to ambush.

Officials say 6 total individuals were paid  $8K to kill Ortiz in what they believe was a highly-orchestrated attack, but police have not identified WHO paid the suspects or what the motive for the shooting was.

In any event, Domionican authorities say the ambush involved 2 vehicles and 1 motorcycle … and announced 5 of the suspects are now in custody, but one remains at large.

During the press conference, officials also presented the gun they believe was used to shoot Ortiz.

In other news regarding the case, CNN reports that Santo Domingo’s Ministry of Interior and Police announced a “provisional closing” of the Dial Bar and Lounge Monday after the weekend shooting. The ministry’s Control of Alcoholic Beverages program initiated the closure.

The club has been given three days to give their account of what happened as police continue to investigate the shooting, the ministry said in a statement.

In initially it was reported that one of the shooters was local cop. This happened after a police officer’s ID card was shared on social media implicating him in the crime. Oops. The Dominican National Police released a statement denying any of their officers were involved.

“Our institution has no link to the event which occurred in the club Dial in the Venezuela Avenue, yesterday Sunday,” National Police said in a news release.
