*If there is one reason to go out and support “Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral” film released on DVD last week, it’s because, according to Perry himself, it’s the final film performance for his beloved signature character Mabel Earlene “Madea” Simmons.
In the film, Madea and her family head out to a joyous family reunion, but the trip turns into a nightmare when Madea and her crew travel to backwoods Georgia, where a family member dies causing sordid family secrets to become revealed as they plan for the funeral. Only Madea can bring the family together and save the day as she does in her own funny way.
Starring alongside Perry in the farewell comedy are Patrice Lovely and Cassi Davis. The film also features some new faces including Rome Flynn, Courtney Burrell, Ciera Payton and KJ Smith, who EUR associate Anasia Obioha got a chance to chat with about the film, working with Perry and memorable behind the scenes moments.

The Lionsgate film, the 11th and final Installment of the Madea Films, reportedly earned $74 million at the global box office against a reported $20 million budget. The DVD includes never-before-seen outtakes, deleted scenes, retrospective featurettes, and funeral etiquette tips from Madea herself.
Perry’s alter ego Madea gained fame in the stage play, “I can Do Bad All by Myself” in 1999. Since then, the straight chaser, gun-toting, no non-sense having grandmother has become a household name in films such as Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Madea’s Family Reunion, Madea’s Witness Protection and Madea Goes to Jail among others. Although this may be Madea’s final curtain call, fortunately for fans, they can enjoy Madea as much as they’d like on DVD, Blu-ray and On Demand.
