WGN America’s ‘Pure’ Returns for Season 2

*It was a night of mingling as the “Pure” TV show on WGN premiered their season 2 episode 1 at the Soho House in West Hollywood for a few insiders, including EURweb to see and it’s definitely a must watch.

The show is based on true events about how a Mennonite pastor goes undercover within the Mexican drug cartel to clean up the drug trafficking problem in his own community. The series is a Canadian TV drama first aired on CBC Television in January 2017 and later picked up by both Hulu and WGN America.

The Electronic Urban Report/EUR was on the scene to talk with the show’s creator, Michael Amo as well as actors Ryan Robbins who plays Pastor Noah Funk and Alex Paxton-Beesley who plays his wife Anna Funk.

Amo goes into his idea behind creating the show: “My grandparents were Mennonites so I always wanted a story that I could tell with Mennonites that was contemporary where I could deal with my preoccupations of religion and justice, this seemed like a perfect way to do that.”

Meanwhile, Ryan Robbins dished his take on this coming season: “This season is just so much bigger and bolder and badder.” Robbins continued “It’s exactly where it should be. It picks up exactly where season 1 left off, it’s super appropriate. It’s heart wrenching and heartwarming, it’s really an excellent season of TV.”

And Alex Paxton-Beesley expresses this seasons intensity: “This season I think it was so intense. It was so intense to make. Umm, in a really good way.” Alex goes on to explain Anna this season “But you know the journey she goes on is maybe a little less empowering. She is much more corned and has less options in her life. I love figuring out the how she’s going to make the few decisions she does get to make and I admire her for consistently wanting to move forward. Like she’s not someone who gives up, she is a fighter and she is a pillar of strength.”

Once pictures were taken and interviews were over they took us to a screening room where they had popcorn, candy, couches and full lounge chairs to view the jaw-dropping, explosive first episode of the second season. Followed by a Q&A with the cast and crew by Glamour West Coast Editor Jessica Radloff and concluding with a small after party.

Pure season 2 airs on WGN America Tuesday, May 28 so make sure you grab your snacks and get ready for this crime drama wild ride.
