John Singleton: Battle Over His $35M Estate Intensifies As Will To Be Filed Soon

john singleton - the real

*Amid reports that John Singleton’s family members are at war over his estate comes a vital new development in the drama — the acclaimed filmmaker had a will in place before he died, TMZ reports.

Sources with direct knowledge tell the outlet that John’s mother, Shelia Ward, is in possession of the will and it will soon be filed with the probate court.

Ward reportedly served as her son’s longtime business manager, and insiders tell TMZ that she is not only up against John’s daughter, Cleopatra, but also his estranged father and girlfriend, the mother of his 1-year-old son, over control over his multi-million dollar estate.

Last week, Cleopatra filed a motion seeking to block her grandmother’s proposed conservatorship. She claims Ward wants to liquidate all of her father’s assets and freeze out his 7 children, the report states.

Cleopatra doesn’t trust her grandmother and she’s suggesting John’s son, Maasai or his father be appointed conservators instead of Ward.

If Singleton had died without a will, his mother would get nothing from his reported $35 million estate, because under California law, the assets would be divided equally among his offspring.

Cleopatra fears Sheila will make it impossible for her and others to access what they believe they are rightfully entitled to financially.

The Academy Award-winning director suffered a stroke after experiencing weakness in his legs, and was admitted to the hospital on April 17. He was taken off life support Monday and died a few hours later.
