*We’d like to set the record straight on reports of a fatal shooting and injuries connected with the Nipsey Hussle memorial and procession on Thursday (04-11-19).

It has been reported by numerous media outlets that one person was killed and three others were injured in a drive-by shooting along the route of Nipsey Hussle’s memorial procession. The key words here are “along the route” of the procession. The shooting was in no way connected to Nipsey’s procession. The shooting took place at the intersection of 103 St. and Main St. AFTER the procession had left the area.

Here’s the bottom line: There were no reports of violence at the procession itself, according to the LA Times. Perhaps the person to blame for the mis-reporting is the LAPD chief, Michael Moore who tweeted that the shooting occurred “in the midst of the procession.”

However though, The LA Times’ response was: “there are no indications at this time that the violence was connected to the memorial” and CNN reported that the shooting occurred “near the procession route.”

In total, four people were shot. Victims were described as three men and one woman between the ages of 30 to 50. It’s currently unknown who died.

As we reported, he procession followed the “Nipsey Hussle’s Celebration of Life” memorial service at the Staples Center, where fans and family alike gathered to honor the rapper and his legacy. Former president Barack Obama sent in a letter that was read aloud during the service, which also featured performances by Stevie Wonder, Jhené Aiko, and others. The program handed out to attendees featured written tributes by Nipsey’s friends, including Kendrick Lamar, who contributed an essay about their early days.

Nipsey Hussle died on March 31 after being shot multiple times outside his Marathon Clothing store in L.A. Eric Holder, 29, was arrested and charged with Nipsey’s murder. He has pleaded not guilty.

During an April 2 vigil at Marathon Clothing, multiple people were injured after a reported stampede.
