*Los Angeles, CA – Writer/Director, Billie King, debuts her autobiographical stage play with an explosive past that promises to deliver!

Billie King: This Ain’t No Billie Jean King Story, stars Yolanda “Yo-Yo” Whitaker (Rapper/Actress), Rahvaunia (“For The People”), and DJ Rogers, Jr. (Singer/Songwriter), and a host of other amazing talent.

Billie King, who was born and raised in Compton, California, has an extensive background in the entertainment industry, having begun her career at just seventeen years old.  As a hip-hop artist turned writer for some of R&B and hip-hop’s hottest acts (Wu Tang Clan, Method Man, KC & JoJo), no one was quite privy to her internal hardships and abuse that she suffered within her own family.

Robin Ayers had an opportunity to chat with the award-winning writer about some of the details surrounding this new project.  Joining her for their chat was Billie’s good friend and producer of “Billie King,” Dawn Haynes.

Dawn Haynes, who is also Billie’s friend and manager, is a successful entrepreneur and philanthropist who decided to come onboard as a producer of the play.

While her belief in Billie’s story is apparent, she also believed she could be a positive and valuable connection in making this play thrive utilizing some of her established connections in Hollywood.

One of those connections being rising star, Alijah Kai, (daughter of acting veteran, Tichina Arnold).  The decision to cast Alijah as “Nia” came easy for Dawn.  Following in her mother’s footsteps, she is a gifted dancer, singer and actress.

As Billie’s excitement towards her April 12 debut peaks, she admits that sharing her story is therapeutic and can possibly help men and women alike recognize potential signs of abuse within their own families.  With the climate of sexual assault being at an all-time high, her goal is for this story to create conversations within the family unit to discuss and hopefully effect change.
