*Britney Spears is taking some “me time” after she checked into a mental facility for “all-encompassing wellness treatment.”

The pop star hit up Instagram to post a picture of a quote which reads “Fall in love with taking care of yourself, mind, body, spirit” on Instagram on Wednesday, along with the caption: “We all need to take time for a little ‘me time.’ :)”

A source tells PEOPLE exclusively that the singer “needed to focus on herself” as she cares for her ailing father Jamie after his “life-threatening” colon rupture, the report states.

“Her dad being sick has taken a toll on her,” the source tells PEOPLE. “He nearly died and actually had another surgery a few weeks ago. He’s not doing well. They’re so close and it has been a lot. There is nothing dramatic going on with her — she just realized she needs to make sure to take time to care for herself.”

We all need to take time for a little “me time.” 🙂

Spears was gearing up for a return to Las Vegas with her show Domination, but in January she announced plans to take an indefinite break to support her father.

“I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say,” Spears captioned an old photo of her posing with her parents, Jamie, 66, and Lynne, 63. “I will not be performing my new show Domination. I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart.”

“However, it’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make,” she said in a follow-up tweet. “A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him.”

Spears’ first Vegas residency, Britney: Piece of Me, grossed over $100 million in ticket sales and was seen by over 700,000 fans.

“I am dedicating my focus and energy to care for my family,” explained Spears in a statement obtained by PEOPLE earlier this year. “We have a very special relationship and I want to be with my family at this time just like they have always been there for me.”

The statement also explained that the singer “has been tremendously involved with caring for her family, and as a result of [Jamie’s] health issues and ongoing recovery, she is going to take time off.”

Spears’ two sons are said to be living with their father, Kevin Federline, while she receives treatment.
