*Michael Avenatti, as the timeless hood expression says, wrote a check his ass couldn’t cash apparently.
Avenatti, best known as the rep for porn star Stormy Daniels in her claims of hush money payments to keep quiet about an alleged affair with President Donald Trump, has been arrested on charges that he tried to shake down Nike for $20 million, according to reports.
The brash, tough talking attorney was busted in Manhattan on Monday. According to prosecutors, Avenatti threatened to use his celebrity to hurt Nike’s reputation and its bottom line if his demands were not met.
“I’ll take $10 billion of your client’s market cap … I’m not f–king around.” Avenatti allegedly told an attorney for the company, according to a complaint filed on Monday.

According to the U.S. Attorney, the call was recorded and there’s video of a meeting between Avenatti and Nike attorneys on March 21. In that meeting,
“If [Nike] wants to have one confidential settlement and we’re done, they can buy that for $22.5 million and we’re done,”Avenatti allegedly said.
During that same meeting, prosecutors say Avenatti set a March 25 deadline and said:
“If this is not papered on Monday, we are done. I don’t want to hear about somebody on a bike trip. I don’t want to hear that … somebody’s grandmother passed away or … the dog ate my homework, I don’t want to hear — none of it is going to go anywhere unless somebody was killed in a plane crash.”
Avenatti allegedly told Nike he had them by “the balls.”
In other news concerning Michael Avenatti, who also reps Azriel Clary‘s family in their case against R. Kelly … he told TMZ …
“On Friday, R Kelly’s camp tried to abruptly change the terms of the meeting at which time my clients and I decided not to participate because the terms were not acceptable. We are now attempting to reschedule the meeting on agreeable terms so my clients can see their daughter.”
Something tells us the Clary’s are going to be looking for a new lawyer. Something also tells us that somewhere a beleaguered R. Kelly is finally having a good laugh at the irony.
