EURweb Exclusive: The Cast of ‘The Curse of La Llorona’ Swear She’s Real – WATCH

*The world premiere of “The Curse of La Llorona” took place at SXSW South by South West) in Austin, Texas at the Paramount Theater and EURweb was there.

The film which is set in the 70s in Los Angeles is based off of the frightening supernatural realm. It focuses on a mother who is suspected of child endangerment and a social worker who’s own 2 kids who come in contact with La LLorona. Though some call it a folk tale, for many she’s very real. This was the case for cast members Patricia Velásquez and Raymond Cruz.

“She’s very real to us,” said Velásquez. “She’s not a story, she’s not a legend and she doesn’t stop when you get older.”

Though it’s human nature to stop and check on any women that you might see crying or in this case “weeping,” Cruz made it clear that he’s not stopping and in fact he’s running. #UsainBolt!

“I would run” he said. “If it’s crying and you hear a woman weeping, immediately you’re thinking La Llorona.”

So did they ever see La Llorona? The cast was asked if they experienced anything creepy behind the scenes. Cruz explained that just like other films such as “Poltergeist,” “The Excorcist,” things have happened that cannot be explained and this film was no different. Velásquez said that she was on her best behavior on set because she felt her (La Llorona’s) presence and it seemed like she was watching them.

Actress Linda Edna Cardellini, who played Anna Garcia, said that there was a scene where she shot in the stairwell that freaked her out because she was in a dark room by herself and wanted nothing more for them to yell “cut.”
