Luke Perry’s Daughter Speaks After His Shocking Death, ‘Grateful for All the Love’

*Luke Perry’s daughter is speaking out for the first time since his shocking death on Tuesday.

According to published reports, Perry never woke up after suffering a massive stroke, and a source tells PEOPLE. that the late “Beverly Hills, 90210” star remained under “heavy sedation” for five days while in the hospital until he died on Monday.

Now, 18-year-old Sophie Perry, Luke’s daughter from his marriage to ex-wife Rachel “Minnie” Sharp, has shared a heartfelt message to his fans one day after he died at age 52.

“A lot has happened in this past week for me,” she captioned an Instagram photo of her father. “Everything is happening so fast. I made it back from Malawi just in time to be here with my family, And in the past 24 hours I have received an overwhelming amount of love and support.”

“I cannot individually respond to the hundreds of beautiful and heartfelt messages, but I see them, and appreciate you all for sending positivity to my family and I,” she continued. “I’m not really sure what to say or do in this situation, it’s something you aren’t ever given a lesson on how to handle, especially when it’s all happening in the public eye. So [bear] with me and know that I am grateful for all the love. Just, being grateful quietly.”

Perry’s rep announced his passing in a statement Monday, confirming he was “surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiancée Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends.”

“The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning,” said the rep. “No further details will be released at this time.”

Perry was best known for playing Dylan McKay on the hit TV series “Beverly Hills, 90210” from 1990-1995. He reprised the role again in 1998 until 2000. His recent work was the role of Fred Andrews on the CW series “Riverdale.

The Perry family asks that donations be made to Fight Colorectal Cancer and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
