Idris Elba Finally Reveals Why He Won’t Play James Bond

*In a new interview with the Daily Mail insert Event, Idris Elba was back at dishing about playing James Bond and why he has no interest in the role.

The Hollywood heartthrob has previously confirmed that he will not play James Bond after Daniel Craig leaves the franchise. And now he gets candid about why.

He also had a very blunt response to a question on “Good Morning, Britain” last summer about whether he would be playing Bond: “No,” he replied, per Esquire.

“Bond is one of the biggest franchises in the world, and for that reason, whoever ends up playing it, lives it,” Elba told Daily Mail journalist Craig McLean. “You’re THAT character, and known as that character for many, many years. I’m creating characters now that can still live alongside Idris. Not ones that take over me and solely define me.”

Rumors about Idris playing the next Bond started in 2014 when emails from the Sony leak revealed a note from  company co-chairman Amy Pascal who said, “Idris should be the next Bond.”

Since then, fans and many within the industry, including Steven Spielberg, have pushed for Elba to replace Craig.

At this year’s Golden Globes, social media went wild when Idris posted a selfie with Daniel Craig. And last year, he tweeted, “My name’s Elba, Idris Elba,”

Meanwhile, producers of the classic franchise reportedly aren’t feeling a Black Bond just yet.
