‘Witness Uganda’ Extended Thru March 3rd at The Wallis in Beverly Hills

*In the intimate setting at the Lovelace Theater inside the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills is a whirlwind of one man’s internal and international escapades to find the meaning of his life.

In Witness Uganda you will travel from New York to Uganda, then back to New York and then back to Uganda again; and never leave your seat.  In this compelling documentary musical stage drama, you will dive inside the heart and the mind of Griffin (brilliantly portrayed by Jamar Williams).

Griffin is trying to find his way and his larger purpose in the world.  In so doing, he finds himself on a mission at a compound in Uganda.

There, he discovers a village in need of learning, hope and a lifeline to the world at large.  Griffin fights an inner struggle of hiding his sexuality while slowly falling in love with the inner strength and beauty of Ugandans.

Ironically, although he sought Utopia, he also discovered greed, fear, sexual discrimination and many of the same complexities that he thought that he had escaped.

The songs, the dancing, the staging of Witness Uganda will leave the audience completely spellbound.  The vision to tell a story in this manner was born out of the companionship and artistry of Griffin Mathews and Matt Gould.  In Los Angeles, one expects theatre to be good, but there is something extraordinary about this combination of talent.  The reason is that the cast, crew and production team have worked on productions such as Hamilton, The Color Purple, Aladdin, Aida, Dreamgirls and many more.

In short, just GO! Go see it, experience it, support those who have put words into action to keep the stream of unique stories and diverse talent on a constant trail from local & regional theaters, all the way to Broadway!  After the show, writers Matt Guild & Griffin Mathews and producer & Tony Award winner Cynthia Erivo (Color Purple) spoke candidly to the crowd about their journey from conception to the stage.  They echoed the need for more productions to be ready to follow the colorful path that Hamilton has created on the great white way.  Witness Uganda is one such production.  The challenge is on to pack the house and spread the word to anyone else who will listen.

Our voices, our stories and our legacy on the stage is ever evolving.  Broadway, you’re late, but let the gates swing open.  Witness Uganda has arrived!

The show has been extended thru March 3rd!  For tickets and more information go to: thewallis.org.
