Prof. Hal & Dr. Bettye Walker Opening First Chapter of the National Space Society in Africa

*Los Angeles, CA — Hildreth (Hal) Walker, Jr. is the man that conducted the Lunar Laser Ranging Operations during the Apollo11 Moon Landing.

Now, Professor Hal and his wife Dr. Bettye Walker are making history as they are celebrating opening the first Chapter of the National Space Society (NSS) on the African Continent, the Cape Town Space Society (CTSS) on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, 1 – 3pm. 

The Media Launch is Sunday, February 24, 2019 @ 3 PM, both events are at Buren High School, 26 Poole St. Brooklyn, Cape Town 7405, South Africa.

In 1997, President Nelson Mandela asked Hildreth and Bettye to Promise to implement science and technology programs in South Africa schools. They fulfilled this promise and A-MAN, Inc. STEM International provides programs where students participate in hands- on activities with laser beams, robotics, and computer labs at Donix Electronic Solutions.

Professor Hal and Dr. Bettye founded, the A – MAN, Inc. STEM International Science Center to promote Science and technology for girls and boys. “In the 21st Century, we must use technology as a solution and promote technologists.” says Walker.

Dr. Bettye Davis Walker is an internationally renowned educational innovator, former University professor and researcher who has also worked with international students. Dr. Walker is a member of the Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA) Rotary Club. She has developed partnerships with Rotary clubs in Cape Town and Pretoria and also coordinated the establishment of many state-of-the-art Computer Literacy Labs in SA.

Professor Hal and Dr. Bettye Walker are amazing, telling important stories, moving ahead in STEM education and generously sharing their knowledge to the world.
