Messages of Wisdom We Need to Give Black Youth Right Now

*One thing that is certain and quite upsetting about the Children in the Black community is that they are being affected by what their parents are fighting for. The masculinity, teasing about Blackness, colorism and all the similar factors are what parents always express at micro-levels.

Due to what Children in the Black community are exposed to, we fear that the cycle of negativity will continue. We believe that words of power, like the words of Rev. Martin Luther King, can go a long way in molding these beautiful souls. Messages such as the following:

1.     You Will Be Entering a World of Prejudgment – But You May Still Redefine Who You Are

Prejudice is still a dominant factor in our society, and racism is very real. These disappointments, however, aren’t too harsh for our children to tear down. Children in the Black community should know that they don’t have to give in to these phony stereotypes.

2.     It’s No-One’s Right to Question Your Blackness

Whether you’re acoustic or preppy, poor or rich – your Blackness will remain and so will the social retaliation from your skin color. What you need to stay true to is the color of your skin and you grammar or your preference in songs doesn’t change who you are.

3.     Success Has Nothing to Do With Fame and Fortune

Owning nice things and being rich doesn’t define success. All of this is merely material wealth. These things do come with hard work and effort but doesn’t necessarily happen in every case. Children in the Black community should be looking forward to individual goals which lead them to success and steer clear of monetary acknowledgement.

4.     Being Dark or Light Skinned Doesn’t Affect Your Superiority

Compliment youth that has higher levels of yellow in their skin than others is belittling children who are darker. If you really want to empower Children in the Black community, then you should respect all of them equally. While doing so, they should all be encouraged to treat all their peers in the same manner.

5.     Words Work Stronger Than Fists. Use Them

These children should be made to realize that violence is never a good method of expressing emotions. Children in the Black community should be conditioned in a manner that they know how to channel their emotions through verbal communication.

Sometimes when we ask for the world to change, we should also aim to change our community from within. Let’s make this change happen!
