Jussie Smollett: Chicago PD ‘Unanimously’ Doubt Actor Was Victim of Hate Crime

*There seems to be some doubt among neighbors, locals cops and news media about Jussie Smollett’s claim that he is the victim of a racist and homophobic hate crime that went down in Chicago in the early morning hours of Jan. 29.

According to Mediaite, investigators reportedly agree that his story is suspicious and members of the media are also side-eyeing his account of the event.

The report suggests that cops may be hesitant to publicly question Jussie’s version of events because they fear the backlash that will erupt for targeting a gay, liberal Black male.

“The first thing you need to understand about this situation is that, because of Smollett’s persona and the nature of his allegation, no one in law enforcement or the news media wants any part of publicly questioning his story. Everyone knows that if they make any sort of negative implication against a black, gay, liberal, celebrity, victim of a horrible hate crime, that they will be roundly and severely attacked, regardless of whether they turn out to be correct.”

Police are reportedly still searching for the two masked assailants who doused Jussie with bleach and tied a noose around his neck. He reportedly transported himself to a local hospital after the attack and was released hours later in “good condition.”

“It is very obvious that if one major news outlet in Chicago had the guts to be the first to openly discredit Smollett’s story, the others would soon follow the leader. But because the risk of being wrong in this situation…, there is just no incentive to take that dive until and unless the police finally make a definitive statement,” Mediate writes.

Smollett’s spokesperson told The Post that he “is the victim here” and “Chicago PD has repeatedly informed us that they find Jussie’s account of what happened that night consistent and credible,” the statement read.

“Superintendent Johnson has been clear from day one that Jussie is a victim. We are continuing to work closely with the Chicago PD and remain confident that they will find Jussie’s attackers and bring them to justice.”

In the days following the attack, Smollett released a statement saying, “I am working with authorities and have been 100% factual and consistent on every level.”
