It Works for Them! Steph and Ayesha Curry Put Each Other Ahead of Kids

As the old, old, old saying goes, “there’s more than one way to skin a cat.” Well, we supposes so since we’ve never skinned at cat and don’t care to. The point is there is more than ONE to do something.

Case in point, if you want it, Ayesha Curry has some unconventional marriage advice that’s helped her relationship with NBA superstar Steph Curry.

Mrs. Curry, in a convo with HelloGiggles.com,said that she and hubby, Steph, put their relationship ahead of any other commitments and that includes … are you ready for this, their kids.

What?! Yes, you read that right. They put their relationship ahead of their children.

“Putting ourselves first, and making sure that we make time for date nights and for each other,” the chef and entrepreneur said. “That’s been very important, as hard as it is. Because when you become a parent, you want to put your kids first, and we do, but we do it second to our relationship.”

Ayesha, 29, and Steph, 30, have been married for seven and a half years and share three children: Riley, 6, Ryan, 3, and Canon, 6 months.

“When our relationship is good, the kids are happy and they’re thriving and our family life is good,” Ayesha further explained. “We have to put that into perspective and realize that it’s not us being selfish, it’s making sure we set a strong foundation.”

The couple also owes a lot of their success, during career ups and downs, to their style of communication.

“Even when we don’t want to talk about something, we talk about it,” she added. “Especially from my perspective, I’m a lay it all out on the table kind of girl, so whether it’s a tough conversation or an easy conversation, I never have a tight lip. I tell it like it is and I tell it straight, and ultimately I think it keeps things a lot better for us.”

Like we said up top, there’s more than one way to skin a cat … or navigate a marriage.
