*Rwanda is cracking down on skin bleaching products by issuing a nationwide ban on whitening creams, soaps and other products that are being removed from shelves.

President Paul Kagame reportedly initiated the ban, as he previously condemned the use of the products in November, msn.com reports.

“Quite unhealthy among other things. Includes use of prohibited chemicals,” the president told a Twitter user who expressed concerned over the use of the toxic creams. “MoH and RNP need to reign this in very quickly.”

Fraink White - blk & lighter
Fraink White says he’s been meddling with his skin pigmentation from a young age. Now, at 28-years-old, the YouTuber insists he is finally happy with the way he looks.

According to Al Jazeera, Rwanda is taking note from neighboring nations that have also banned the products, including Kenya and Ghana.

“A woman would always find a way to lighten her skin. The fact that Rwanda has banned skin bleaching products does not mean women would not do it,” one person tweeted.

“Banning is never an effective answer for products like this, forcing their use underground. Education gives the greatest power. Everyone wants to be a different colour,” another wrote.

Skin bleaching is a multibillion-dollar global industry and at least four out of every 10 women in Africa use these dangerous chemicals to bleach their skin, according to the World Health Organisation.

As previously reported, former stripper Blac Chyna teamed with Whitenicious by Dencia for a new product called “Whitenicious X Blac Chyna Diamond Illuminating & Lightening Cream.” It goes for $250 per jar, which is studded with Swarovski crystals.

The cream is being marketed to men and women of all skin types. Chyna has reportedly been using Whitenicious dark spot corrector for a few years to treat her hyperpigmentation.

She feels this is the perfect market to explore since a lot of women of color suffer from skin issues. Chyna also doesn’t seem bothered by the controversy that comes with skin lightening products, as critics believe they play into the European beauty standard that “lighter the better” and “white is right.”
