*If you love good music, then you have probably heard Tony! Toni! Tone! when they told us that “It never rains in Southern California,” but boy were they wrong.

The past few days have been particularly interesting in California as it’s been raining non-stop for almost a week, but on Friday (01-18-19) the rain finally stopped and the sun came out, just in time for a huge celebration in downtown Los Angeles at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

This Monday, January 21, 2019 marks Martin Luther King, Jr. day, a holiday honoring the legacy of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

In preparation for that, on Friday, the 6th Anniversary of MLK Community Health Foundation “Sharing the Dream” luncheon took place.

The annual luncheon was created to shed light on members of the community who are making a difference, such as nationally recognized hospital CEO, Dr. Elaine Batchlor.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital opened in South Los Angeles in 2015 and is open to 1.3 million residents in South Los Angeles.

MLKCH’s vows to offer a “level of service that ensures high-quality, high-tech, and high-touch healthcare experience for patients and their families- regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.”

Among the guests for the event was Chris Nee, Event Chair, MLKCH Foundation Board Member and get this, the creator of the hit Disney animated children’s series, Doc McStuffins!

I mean honestly, how cool is it that the creator of a kid’s cartoon about a little girl who cares for her toys at her pretend clinic, would also be a foundation board member at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital?

You can tell that Chris Nee is extremely passionate about raising awareness in regards to healthcare.

Also in attendance, “Extra TV” Host, Tanika Ray who served as the Mistress of Ceremonies.Friday’s event was a beautiful celebration honoring community leaders and a man whose legacy will live on forever.
