*Bill Timmons, a top executive with Hacienda HealthCare in Phoenix resigned Monday following a report that a patient in a vegetative state for 14 year became pregnant and gave birth, per USA Today.
The facility is now under criminal investigation after a woman went into labor in her bed and delivered a healthy baby boy on Dec. 29, 2018 at the care facility for people with intellectual disabilities.
“None of the staff were aware that she was pregnant until she was pretty much giving birth,” an unnamed source told CBS News affiliate KTVK. “From what I’ve been told she was moaning. And they didn’t know what was wrong with her.”
Azfamily.com on Thursday reported that the woman was left in a vegetative state after a near-drowning more than 10 years ago. According to a statement from the company, Timmons, Hacienda HealthCare’s longtime CEO, terminated his employment immediately upon news that a possible staffer impregnated the woman.

Hacienda HealthCare board member Gary Orman said the facility will accept “nothing less than a full accounting of this absolutely horrifying situation, an unprecedented case that has devastated everyone involved, from the victim and her family to Hacienda staff at every level of our organization.”
Orman continued: “I want to assure our patients, their loved ones, our community partners, the agencies we do business with, Governor (Doug) Ducey and the residents of Arizona, we will continue to cooperate with Phoenix Police and the investigating agencies at all levels in every way possible.
“And we will do everything in our power to ensure the safety of every single one of our patients and our employees.”
The facility says it will now no longer allow male staffers to enter a female patient’s room unaccompanied.
“During this time, the agency has required heightened safety measures be implemented at the facility, including increased staff presence during patient interactions; increased monitoring of the patient care areas; and increased security measures with respect to visitors at the facility,” Arizona Department of Health Services spokesperson Melissa Blasius-Nuanez told Refinery29.com Friday.
The Phoenix Police Department and the Arizona Department of Health Services are conducting a joint investigation into the sexual assault.
Spokesperson Tasha Menaker shared concerns with KTVK that there could be more victims at the facility.
“Many sexual assault perpetrators are actually looking for situations where people are in isolated or vulnerable positions,” she said. “Our hope is that there will be a thorough investigation that identifies the person who did this.”
