Chance the Rapper’s Quote of Not Believing R. Kelly Accusers Because They’re Black – Taken Out Context (WATCH)

*Chance the Rapper is getting the chance to make right a comment he made when he said he wasn’t down with women who accused R. Kelly because they are black.

The bottom line is that he did  say what he said on no less than the “Surviving R. Kelly” docu-serise on Lifetime. But, there’s a caveat. His full statement is not quite the same:

“We’re programmed to really be hypersensitive to black male oppression, but black women are exponentially [a] higher oppressed and violated group of people just in comparison to the whole world. Maybe I didn’t care because I didn’t value the accusers’ stories because they were black women.”

He added:

“Usually, n***** that get in trouble for s*** like this on their magnitude of celebrity, it’s light-skinned women or white women. That’s when it’s a big story. I’ve never really seen any pictures of R. Kelly’s accusers.”

Later on Twitter, Chance added these thoughts:

“The quote was taken out of context but the truth is any of us who ever ignored the R Kelly stories, or ever believed he was being setup/attacked by the system (as black men often are) were doing so at the detriment of black women and girls.

“I apologize to all of his survivors for working with him and for taking this long to speak out.”

Chance is also now saying that making a song with R. Kelly was a mistake, adding,

“I made a mistake and I’m happy that those women are getting voices now and I can grow to understand better what my positioning should be or should’ve been when that opportunity came.”

“Surviving R. Kelly,” the six-part docu-series, written and directed by Dream Hampton, features 50 interviews, including civil rights activist Tarana Burke, singer Sparkle, ex-wife Andrea Kelly, ex-girlfriend Kitti Jones, and brothers Carey and Bruce Kelly. It premiered on Lifetime this past Thursday (01-03-19) and ended last night (01-05-19) to rave reviews and record ratings.
