*Vic Mensa called out late-rapper XXXTentacion at last weekend’s BET Awards, stating in a freestyle, “Your favorite rapper is an abuser.” Mensa later issued an apology after learning that XXX’s mother was in the audience, but said he “stands behind those statements.
“I vehemently reject the trend in hip hop of championing abusers, and I will not hold my tongue about it,” Mensa said in defense of his Cypher (freestyle), which aired during the BET live telecast from Miami Beach, Florida on Saturday.
As noted by SandraRose.com, X was accused of domestic violence by an ex-girlfriend and he was jailed before being released on bond to await trial. He was ambushed and killed by armed robbers outside a motorcycle dealership in Deerfield Beach, FL on June 18. Four suspects are in custody awaiting trial on 1st-degree murder charges.

Black Twitter dragged Vic for dissing X and fellow rappers threatened his life, including Trippie Redd who challenged Mensa to “pull up” and fight him.
All of the backlash forced Vic to issue a video apology to X’s mother — while defending his stance on domestic violence.
He captioned the video: “Protect women. Domestic & sexual abuse are not excusable because you have talent or you are troubled. With that said I was not aware his mother would be in attendance & I offer her my deepest condolences.”
Mensa explained that his Cypher was “prerecorded weeks ago, and I had no idea a grieving mother would be in the audience to honor her lost son.”
As alluded to by DJ Scheme, Mensa isn’t innocent when it comes to domestic violence. In the past, the Chicago-native has admitted to choking his own girlfriend during a fight, per consequenceofsound.net.
