Mixed Race Actor Jason Momoa (‘Aquaman’) on Lessons Learned and Revenge

Jason Momoa as Aquaman in Warner Bros. Pictures release.

*Lessons learned and revenge was some of the topics discussed at the press junket for the long awaited action adventure, “Aquaman,” opening nationwide on December 21. Cast members Jason Momoa, Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, and director James Wan were at the Four Seasons Hotel in New York City to talk about their prized production.

I asked the cast if there was anything they learned from their characters.

“With King Ohm, it was always family first,” Wilson said of his role. “I second that,” Momoa chimed in, “but I learned so much from Patrick. I mean, he is so easy going.”

Director Wan weighed in with, “We all learned from Patrick,” and Heard agreed, saying “We did.”

Momoa also wants the public to be schooled about the fact that diversity plays a big part in the film.

“I’m the first mixed race superhero and it’s a huge honor to play this character, with all of his imperfections,” Momoa beamed.

Dedicated DC Comics fans are some of the staunchest critics but Wan wants them to know he’s an Aquaman fan, too.

“I really respect the source material,” Wan explained. “I know the fans have stood by Aquaman all these years while people made fun of him, made fun of his comic books, made fun of all the characters in his world. I want them to see that this is finally the opportunity to get revenge. And by that I mean this movie is made with a lot of love and passion.”
