*Spice Girls singer Melanie ‘Mel B’ Brown suffered several serious injuries in an accident over the weekend that required emergency surgery.

Monday morning she took to Instagram to reveal that her injuries included a severed hand and broken ribs.

“For now my right arm/hand is all stitched up and I’m trying to keep still to heal my broken ribs, ohhh the pain,” she wrote in part. “But I’m in super safe hands with the care of everyone here at the hospital!!!!! Thank you all for understanding, I love you all.”

More details are now coming emerging about how Mel’s injuries occurred.

ET has learned that Mel was staying at a friend’s house in London, England, over the weekend and, when she woke up and decided to go downstairs, she fell down a narrow staircase. Her friend took her to the hospital where doctors determined she needed surgery, which she has already undergone.

In her series of Instagram posts, Brown also included an apology to fans who were expecting her to be in New York this week for a book signing of her memoir, “Brutally Honest.”

“I’m absolutely gutted but I can assure you it WILL happen at a later date,” she wrote. “But for now My right arm/hand is all stitched up and I’m trying to keep still to heal my broken ribs, ohhh the pain, but I’m in super safe hands with the care of everyone here at the hospital!!!!!!”

Mel was scheduled to fly back to Los Angeles on Monday to take her court-ordered drug and alcohol test but she missed it because her injuries required hospitalization. ET reports that when she arrived at the hospital in London, doctors performed a mandatory drug and alcohol test and all of the results came back negative. Her rep says the test was not a part of Brown’s court-ordered test.

The “America’s Got Talent” judge has reportedly tested negative on her last 14 drug and alcohol tests. Her rep insists that neither drugs nor alcohol played a role in the accident.

In Mel’s Instagram post on Monday morning, she thanked the hospital staff and her fans for their support.
