His claim of dominance sparked an online debate among music fans and celebs like Tyrese, John Legend and Kehlani, who wrote on Twitter:  “beyoncé is the king of rnb”.

Many on social media quickly noted that they won’t deny his skills and overall talent, but many more insisted that the singer has little evidence to support proclamation.

#PressPlay: Do ya’ll think #Jacquees is the King of R&B for this generation?

On Instagram Monday, Tyrese called out Jacquees out for “trolling” his followers. He believes Chris Brown and Trey Songz as more worthy of the ‘king” title.

Though the reaction was mostly negative, Jacquees did receive support from folks who appreciate his confidence.

Meanwhile, John Legend responded to the debate on Twitter, writing: “Honestly I don’t think there is a king of r&b right now. Anyone consistently dominating the charts, selling out arenas, etc, a la Usher at his prime. Not a comment on quality. I think the throne is open right now.”
