*Academy Award-winning actress Viola Davis will star in and produce a biopic about politician Shirley Chisholm in an upcoming film for Amazon Studios.
Chisholm became the first Black woman ever elected to Congress, and the first woman to seek the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination several years later, The Associated Press reported.
“JuVee Productions is beyond excited about our new relationship with Amazon Studios. We share the same vision of creating a vast and rich array of narratives that are inclusive and reflective of our world,” Davis, who co-runs JuVee Productions with husband Julius Tennon, said about the partnership in a statement.

Chisholm represented New York’s 12th District in the House of Representatives for more than a decade. She died in 2005 at the age of 80.
