Missouri Senator Reads 50 Cent’s Self-Help Book During Filibuster

*Not too long ago, the Missouri Senate sidelined a vote on a sales tax plan after a senator filibustered it by reading a book about 50 Cent.

Democratic Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal on Monday read for almost an hour from “The 50th Law,” a motivational, self-help book co-authored by 50 Cent and Robert Greene (author of The 48 Laws of Power).

Chappelle-Nadal took the Senate floor for nearly an hour to read from 50’s autobiographical guide, which offers “a philosophical reflection on the rapper’s life and career, interspersed with wisdom from Abraham Lincoln, Socrates, Malcolm X, and other noteworthy figures,” per Pitchfork.

Chappelle-Nadal opposes a plan that would allow “unincorporated areas of St. Louis County to vote on a sales tax to fund law enforcement.” She believes the state should focus on the many internal issues the police force before allocating funding. As Vibe notes, that includes the way law enforcement responded to protests in Ferguson following the fatal police shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown.

While her filibuster was a success, The AP reports that the House passed a similar bill (123-24) later that day.

In related news, 50 Cent does not have a third son, according to his representative. The mogul told fans on social media over the weekend that he met his third son, 10-year-old named Davian, at a meet-and-greet in New York earlier this month, reported People magazine.

However, his representative has now issued a statement insisting 50 Cent, real name Curtis Jackson, isn’t Davian’s father and that he has simply decided to become a mentor to the kid.

“Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson does not have a third son, however he was immediately drawn to this young boy’s story much like his own, the 10-year-old is growing up under rough circumstances so he has decided to help mentor him and get him the education he deserves,” a statement from his rep read.
