Jeannie Knew The First Year That Her Marriage Wouldn’t Work

Jeannie Mai: If it’s been a year since… hand to heart, I swear, any woman who has been divorced – in that year? You know. You have red flags if it’s not going to work. I did. Isn’t that real, guys? You know what I’m saying? You know what I’m saying!

[The Real audience applauds]

Loni Love: Right.

Adrienne Houghton: Sometimes it’s best to just nip it in the bud.

Jeannie: That women’s intuition and I’ve said it before, like if you really –

Tamera Mowry-Housley: So when did you know?

Jeannie: I knew a year in. For sure.

Tamera: When you got married?

Jeannie: Yes, yes.

Tamera; Y’all were married for ten years!

Jeannie: I know, because…

Tamera: Wow.

Jeannie: Because, because, and I think this is the part where I’m still having a conversation with myself…

Tamera: Yeah…

Jeannie: You’re always going to ask, “Damn, why did you wait so long?”

Tamera: Yeah!

Loni: Right.

Jeannie: But as a woman, and I’m proud of this trait that I have – I’m loyal as [makes a sound and points]. I really am.

[The Real audience applauds]

Jeannie: And when I say I’m gonna do something, I’m gonna do it. And it’s another human being who put all of his hope into trying to make it work, so you gotta try! And so, as much as I’m proud of myself, I’m also like, “You don’t have to wait so long when you know what’s right for you.”

Adrienne: Ding, ding, ding.

[The Real audience applauds]

Adrienne: Almost every single person that I know…

Jeannie: Say it.

Adrienne: …that has gotten divorced…

Jeannie: Say it…

Adrienne: …says they absolutely knew it.

Jeannie: Always.

Adrienne: Every, every single person, and it’s not that I’m being dramatic, or being like “I knew it the first day!” just ‘cause you know it didn’t work out.

Loni: Oh, so you’re saying they knew early. Early on in the marriage.

Adrienne: Almost every single person I knew, knew one of two things: one – they never should have done it in the first place.

Tamera: Wow.

Adrienne: They felt that there were other voices in their ears that said they should do it, or they felt forced into it, or they felt pressured. That’s the number one thing. And number two – almost every single person says within the first year…

Jeannie: Yes.

Adrienne: …they knew, “Wow, I’ve made a mistake.”
