*With a character that has long been mocked and following underperforming DCEU movies featuring famous characterslike “Batman vs. Superman” and “Justice League,” Warner Brothers needed to give fans and casual moviegoers a reason to check out their “Aquaman” movie, which opens nationwide a mere month from now in Arthur Curry’s first live-action film.

Enter the Aquaman Experience.

The Aquaman Experience was one of the highlights of  ComplexCon – the place to be for all that is urban, hip and cutting edge – this past Sunday at the Long Beach Convention Center in Southern California.

While most exhibits and displays for feature films might include some images from the film and a trailer on a screen, the Aquaman Experience goes 10 steps beyond that to truly give you an immersive event.

First here is the trailer, which is not flat, but wraps itself around the whole room cylindrically. It is amazingly lifelike and makes you feel like you can touch Arthur Curry and his beloved Mera. You’re not just watching it. You feel like the waves are coming down on you and the sound is blaring.

With the technology in the Aquaman Experience, it is not only immersive, but interactive.

When you touch the waves on the screens, you truly feel like you are putting your hand through a waterfall and you’re getting to see a glimpse of Atlantis. That’s the idea and it’s brilliantly executed, as the water seemingly falls around your hand just like regular water would. You can tell a lot of time and effort went into making sure the “water” acted and reacted like regular water would … which is key when one of the selling points of the film is that a huge part of the film deals with the King of an Underwater kingdom.

You can tell a lot of thought went into making the technology give fans an adventure that’s unique to this experience.

Which brings us to the whales projection, jellyfish projection and Atlantis projection, in which you feel like you are seeing different scenes take place above and around you – and that are a perfect reproduction of the people and animals that are in the film.

The combination of interactivity and immersive experience is at a level you don’t see every day.

When I saw one of the big scenes in the film, “Trident Speech,” I saw the texture of both Aquaman’s and Mera’s suits, the colors, symbols and glitz. Toss in a waterfall that is so realistic that you almost feel like you should be getting wet when the water is falling down, even though you know that it is a screen.

To sum up, the Aquaman Experience is a very bold representation of moments and things from the film that will have you excited that the film will make you feel that way. It also accentuates how different “Aquaman” will be form other superhero films – even Batman and Superman – by being so specifically about Aquaman and his world.

If visitors at Complexcon weren’t wowed enough by the interactivity and immersive nature of the Aquaman Experience, they were raving about the swagger displayed by lead Jason Mamoa in the trailer. He has succeeded in making the character cool to audiences – always a big factor in potential box-office.

In the end, the Aquaman Experience, by being so unique, promises audiences a film different than any they’ve ever seen before. In that respect, it has gone a long way to making the film an event, creating buzz and ensuring it’s success.
