After 0-6 Start, Tyronn Lue is Fired by Cleveland Cavaliers – VIDEO

*Without LeBron James, Tyronn Lue is losing. Wait a minute! Make that Tyronn Lue has LOST his job as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

It appears that since LeBron booked up to the LA Lakers (where he’s only doing slightly better in the winning column, himself), the wheels have come off the wagon in Cleveland, as reflected by their 0-6 record to start the 2018-2019 season. The plan is to bump assistant Larry Drew up to an interim head coaching position while owner Dan Gilbert decides his next move. Here’s what Lue had to say about his firing:

“My time here in Cleveland was truly special,” Lue said in a statement issued to sports journalist Marc J. Spears.

“I am very grateful for the dedication, sacrifice, and support of all the players on our team, the tremendous coaches I worked with and of course, our incredible fans. Lastly, deep thanks to Dan Gilbert, David Griffin and Koby Altman for the opportunity over the last three years and I only wish the organization success moving forward.”

ESPN reports that you shouldn’t be surprised if Larry Drew pushes for a permanent position as he negotiates the terms to his revised contract. When Lue missed several games last season due to an illness, Larry Drew guided the team to a respectable 8-1 record, but that also included James calling plays as well.

Sources told ESPN’s Brian Windhorst that Lue recently had a disagreement with Altman over playing veterans. Altman preferred that Kyle Korver and JR Smith be taken out of the rotation to give time to younger players. After one game in which they didn’t play, Lue put both back in the rotation without consulting Altman.

By the way, Lue is still owed roughly $15 million on the contract he signed in 2016 after the team won the title, sources said.

James thanked Lue on Twitter Sunday.
