Maks Chmerkovskiy Explains Why He’s Not Going Back to Dancing With the Stars

Loni Love: I’m very disappointed because you decided not to go back to Dancing With the Stars. Why is that?

Jeannie Mai: Why are you just blurting it…

Maks Chmerkovskiy: I have a sibling that looks just like me, does the same stuff, and says similar things. So, I think that, uh…. I’m a dad, I’m a husband, uh…

Jeannie: Congrats on that.

Maks: That has nothing to do with your question, I just wanted to say it, so…

Loni: That’s fine.

Maks: Yea, no, you know, responsibilities are a little different, your chemistry changes when you have a child. You know, things look different, they seem different. Um, there’s also something to be said about what the show is, itself. Um, I’m a big supporter and I will never stop being, dance on tv and all of that, the industry needs it.  Kids are doing amazing.  You saw Dancing With the Stars: Junior premiered, I think it’s going to be an incredible show.

Loni: Mmhm. Right.

Maks: Um, but, you know find yourself politicking for your votes. Really. And so I spent twelve years on the show try…, I probably failed a lot of times in not saying what I shouldn’t. But, you know you find that you have to be a certain way ‘cause you don’t want your antics to cause your partner votes. And so, you know, well, like looking back at, you know, where I am now, I’m finding myself… I, I, I want people to know me for me and not for that guy that was there.

*AUDIENCE CLAPS*

Maks: I’m not saying that a lot of things are now going to be said, that I wasn’t real back then. No, I was me and it was hard to fight. But, it. Was a different Maks.

Loni; But, you want the freedom to say and be yourself and say what you want to say now.

Maks: Yea. You know, a lot of things today that we all have social medias, we all have a couple hundred thousand people, if you’re lucky, and you’ve done some things, you know, and you’ve presented yourself right, I want what I say now to be understood that it’s me, that it’s not oh, he has to say certain things

Loni: Okay.

Adrienne: Okay.  Makes sense.
