Queen Latifah ‘Unable to Accept’ Marian Anderson Award – Al Sharpton Shades Kanye West

*Queen Latifah says personal reasons are why she’s “unable to accept” an award named after a pioneering opera singer, Page Six reports.

The Marian Anderson Award made the announcement on its website that the 20th Anniversary gala and concert have been postponed. Anderson was the first black singer to perform at the Metropolitan Opera.

The award is given in Philadelphia to critically acclaimed artists for their humanitarian work. Past winners have included Oprah Winfrey, Maya Angelou, and Quincy Jones.

Queen Latifah won a Grammy for her 1994 album “Black Reign” and earned an Oscar nomination for her role in 2002’s “Chicago.”

The organization says the gala will be rescheduled, and it “hopes to honor Queen Latifah in the future.”

In related news, the Rev. Al Sharpton honored Jeffrey Wright and Terrence Howard last week at the Triumph Awards, but don’t expect him to ever roll out the red carpet for MAGA-obsessed Kanye West.

“I think Kanye is at best confused and being manipulated,” Sharpton said of West’s White House visit. “Apparently, Kanye thought he was freestyling and Trump thought he was booking artists at his showroom in Atlantic City, because it served no purpose.”

The 9th Annual Triumph Awards, held October 9 at the Rose Theater at Lincoln Center, celebrated distinguished individuals who use their talent and resources to empower their community. The honorees this year were lawyer Joe Tacopina, Dia Simms (who runs Diddy’s Combs Enterprises), Starbucks’ Rosalind Brewer, AT&T’s Tanya Lombard and Essence president Michelle Ebanks.
