The true highlight of night was advocate supporter and philanthropist Robert De Niro being honored with the “Brass Ring Award” by longtime friend and collaborator David O. Russell. Past recipients of this sentimental award have been Hilary Clinton, Frank Sinatra, the late great Whitney Houston and Halle Berry.  De Niro’s heart felt speech singing Barbara’s praises by saying …

“We’re all in her debt because she’s so nice, generous, and committed, but she doesn’t just throw money at the challenge of treating and beating type 1 diabetes. She puts her resources where they will do the most good.  It’s informed philanthropy, not just about giving, but about getting it done!”

The epic biennial affair sponsored by American Airlines, The Beverly Hilton, Tina & Rick Caruso, Marlyn & Robert Day and Dexcom raised $1.9 million with a total of $100 million raised to date. Making this year’s black-tie gala another great success.
