EUR Insight/Four Fierce Black Feminists

*It’s very difficult to come up with the perfect definition of what feminism is. Now that Black feminist is also a thing, the definition gets a little more complex. But why do we need to define what they do? Feminism is an ever changing and shape-shifting school of thought, and we all know what their purpose is.

What we do know is that every feminist has her own persona and her way of opening new doors for all the girls and women out there. These women didn’t have someone to open doors for them, and now they’ve kicked through to become the fiercest black feminists out there. We’ll introduce you to all these inspiring individuals – so that you can get to know them.

Here are some of our top picks:

Sarah Jones

This woman has been the voice for a lot of voiceless women in the world and her ethnicity resonates in her work. She was first noticed in her work on Bridges and Tunnels and Broadway. But now she has something else to offer for the masses. Her unflinching method of portraying the many characters of women has a lot of people hooked.

Angelica Ross

The founder of Trans Tech Enterprises, Angelica is already far ahead in providing great opportunities for the LGBTQT community. She is working hard to provide safe work environments and economic opportunities and is specifically working hard for transgenders. Her team has also started teaching coding, web design and many technical skills to the minority genders so they can have an advantage in the workplace.

Sevonna Brown

Brown is the project manager for human rights at the Black Women’s Blueprint and doesn’t like no as an answer. Her work is focused on putting a stop to pervasive sexual violence which is incurred against Black girls and women. Her organization has a grassroots department which is known for its accountability, community education, advocacy and a lot more.

Charlene Carruthers

Carruthers is a National Director at BYP100 – a queer community organizer for the Black community. With her speech and writings, she has introduced everyone to her cause very fiercely, loudly and unapologetically. Many Black activists across the country have already joined her cause.

Other notable mentions include Vivian Anderson, Michelle Ferrier, Tamika Mallory, and Sherri Williams. You should definitely look up these fierce, empowered females if you too wish to support them in their cause.
