Ringside Update/ ‘Canelo’ vs GGG A Fistic Explosion in the Desert

*This writer can’t imagine that there could be some among you that missed watching the exciting Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Alvarez fight.

For this was one that not only would go down in the annuls of boxing history, but one that we haven’t seen quite like this in a while where you had two of the best fighters in the middleweight division going toe to toe for the entire fight and letting it all hang out.

Just imagine how it was centuries ago in the Roman coliseum  when there were two gladiators going at each other with their hands wrapped in leather spikes until it was just one man standing. Well folks, this is how it is best to describe what happen Saturday night inside the ring at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

They fought twelve grueling rounds and most of it was in the middle of the ring. At the end of the day the evidence was clear that they had been in a real war. This time though ” Canelo” Alvarez wanted everyone to know that he wanted this one bad enough to take it from GGG. He was more aggressive this time around utilizing more shots to the body and showed a lot more grit than the last time they fought in the same arena.

And although this bout went back and forth throughout resulting in a terrific showdown, the results turned out a little different after twelve with one judge scoring the bout a draw, and the other two giving it to ” Canelo” 115-113. There are some ring observers who believe it was a draw and some who believe that GGG got robbed.  Either way you look at it the sold out crowd of 21,000 plus in attendance and the millions around the world got their money’s worth. And who knows, this only sets up for a third match if the two sides can come together and make sense with each other, it’s definitely a fight that’s worthy of making.

And there were plenty of well known stars and athletes ringside including Lebron James, Mike Tyson, Charles Barkley, and Will Smith just to name a few. And you can bet your last dollar that they would all come out to see a third fight if it’s made. As I always say, we’ll see what happens.

In other boxing news, young Devin Haney is set to go against Juan Carlos Burgos on September 28 at the Pechanga Indian Resort in a bout that will be telecast live on Sho Box The New Generation as he attempts to extend his winning streak to 20-0. And incase you haven’t heard, Floyd “Money” Mayweather has announced that he and Manny ” Pacman’ Pacquiao have agreed to get back in the ring with each other on December 8 (we’ll see how that turns out)
