*Taye Diggs stars in a new series on CW as a football coach who recruits a high school football player Spencer James (played by Daniel Ezra) from South Los Angeles to help win games for Beverly Hills High School, however the drama begins to unfold as Spencer struggles to balance two different worlds.
“All American” is inspired by the life of retired NFL player Spencer Paysinger who serves as an executive consultant for the show.
Actor Taye Diggs shared his thoughts on why he was so inspired to be apart of the series.
“I read the script and then I met with everybody and I said let’s be real, the script is great but how much of this are we actually going to see,” Diggs said. Because at the time, it seemed that they were really digging in and I’ve never been on a network show that was that brave, and so many of these situations in this program spoke to me personally from experience that also kind of fueled me to want to get out there and spread the word.”
British actor Daniel Ezra speaks on his relationship with the real Spencer Paysinger.
“During the pilot he was there everyday,” Ezra said. “Since we’ve been filming every football shoot he is there, he actually plays a defensive line coach so you kind of see him sometimes in the background.” “And he’s always made himself available, he never opposes anything, he never comes up to me and says ‘say it like this’ or I would of said it like this.” For him the most important thing is that it feels real, it feels authentic, it feels honest and he’s there just to oversee all of that.”
‘All American’ debuts on the CW Wednesday, October 10th.
