*In casting news, “This Is Us” star Ron Cephas Jones has been cast in Sony’s “Venom,” a Ruben Fleischer-directed movie that follows the popular Marvel antihero as he transforms from go-getter journalist to powerful alien symbiote, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Tom Hardy and Riz Ahmed star in the first standalone to come out of Sony’s Spider-Man universe. It’s due in theaters on Oct. 5.
Jones, who just picked up his second Emmy nomination for the NBC drama, can currently be seen in the second season of Netflix’s “Luke Cage” and in Ken Marino’s big-screen “Dog Days,” opposite Vanessa Hudgens and Nina Dobrev. He is also set for Eddie Murphy’s Netflix feature “Dolemite Is My Name!”
Over on Fox’s “Empire,” Skylan Brooks (“The Get Down”) and Meta Golding (“Behind the Movement”) are set for recurring roles on the upcoming fifth season, reports Deadline.
Brooks will play Quincy, a young man wrongly incarcerated who develops a relationship with Andre (Trai Byers). Golding will portray Teri, the mother of wrongfully incarcerated Quincy (Brooks). She is a heartfelt beauty who works with Andre (Byers) while they fight to free her son.
“Empire” returns Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 8 PM on Fox.
Brooksplays Chubs in “The Darkest Minds” opposite Amandla Stenberg and Mandy Moore. He also starred in “Southpaw” and “The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete.” He’ll next star opposite Rita Wilson and Miles Brown in the coming-of-age comedy “Emmett.”
Golding played Rosa Parks in the TV One feature “Behind the Movement” and recurred as Noa on season 2 of USA’s “Colony.” She also reprised her role of Enobaria in the final installment of the “Hunger Games” saga, “Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2.”
