VMA Roundup: Watch Clips of Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, J-Lo, Logic, Ariana Grande, Travis Scott and More

*Before Madonna brought the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards to an offensive halt with her self-indulgent Aretha Franklin tribute, a lot took place in the 2 ½ hours prior.

Opening the show at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall was Cardi B, who pretended to cradle her baby Kulture in a pink blanket onstage, only to eventually reveal one of the night’s Moon Person trophies instead.

Cardi took home three awards – for Song of the Summer, Best New Artist and Best Collaboration with Jennifer Lopez and DJ Khaled for “Dinero.”

“I’m so happy to receive this award,” the rapper said earlier as she clutched her trophy for Best New Artist. “A couple of months ago a lot of people were saying, ‘You’re gambling your career! You’re about to have a baby, what are you doing?’ And you know, I carried the baby, I had the baby, and now I’m still winning awards!”

“Night School” stars Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish were chosen to roast the VMA audience…and, of course, plug their movie.

Nicki Minaj won Best Hip Hop Video for “Chun-Li” and playfully chastised Haddish for roasting Fifth Harmony in the monologue.

“Don’t be coming for Fifth Harmony because Normani is that b*tch,” she said while accepting her Moon Person. She then helicoptered from Radio City Music Hall to Oculus for a performance of “Majesty,” “Barbie Dreams” and “FEFE” from her new album “Queen.”

Ariana Grande won Best Pop Video for “No Tears Left To Cry,” and MTV cameras repeatedly captured her making googly eyes with her fiancé Pete Davidson. She ended her acceptance speech with a shout-out to the “Saturday Night Live” star: “Pete Davidson, thanks for existing.”

Later, she delivered her empowering new single “God Is a Woman” in a Last Supper themed performance featuring a group of more than 50 diverse dancers. She ended the performance by holding hands with her grandmother, her mother and her aunt.

Logic, protesting Donald Trump’s separation of immigrant families at the Mexico border, wore a black tee that read “F— The Wall” and was joined by hundreds of immigrant children and families sporting white shirts that read “We Are All Human Beings” during the performance of his and Ryan Tedder’s “One Day.”

J-Lo ran through her greatest hits in a performance linked to her Video Vanguard honor. Ja Rule even joined her for their two hits, “I’m Real” and “Ain’t It Funny.”

During Lopez’s acceptance speech, the 49-year-old singer, dancer and actress thanked everyone who helped her along the way, but saved the sweetest moment for her 10-year-old twins Max and Emme and boyfriend Alex Rodriguez, whom she called her “twin soul.”

Travis Scott and James Blake performed an “Astroworld” medley of “Stargazing,” “Stop Trying To Be God” and “Sicko Mode.” Scott’s baby mama, Kylie Jenner, looked on from the audience in her white Tom Ford suit dress and Olgana Paris white pumps. Last night was their second official appearance as a couple.

Post Malone and 21 Savage took the stage for their hit “Rockstar” before Malone picked up a guitar and peeled off into the big Aerosmith reunion performance, performing the band’s “Dream On” and “Toys in the Attic”…not “Walk This Way” as had been rumored before the show.

“Havana” singer Camila Cabello won Video Of The Year and Artist of the Year. Accepting the latter award from Madonna, the singer got down on her knees and bowed repeatedly to the veteran singer, spent the first part of her speech praising her, and then dedicated her award to the 60-year-old.
