*Ariana Grande paid tribute to Aretha Franklin during her visit to “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Thursday, which resulted in a standing ovation from the audience and a rush of emotion that left her in tears.

Grande was on the show to promote her new album “Sweetener,” which dropped at midnight. She was scheduled only for a comedy skit outside of her chat with Fallon, but, according to TMZ, producers asked the 25-year-old to perform a song by Franklin to honor the icon, who died hours earlier at the age of 76.

Grande originally said she was too emotional to sing, as Franklin was one of her heroes. But Questlove of the show’s in-house band The Roots reportedly persuaded her to do it.

Wearing all black, Grande took the dimly lit stage, stood in front of The Roots and belted a soulful rendition of “Natural Woman” that brought the crowd to its feet when it was over. The singer left the stage in tears.
